What is the claims process and should I know before contacting my insurance company?
Insurance claims can be a somewhat confusing process. A lot of our customers worry that the insurance company may penalize them for filing a claim. Typically, insurance companies do not penalize homeowners for legitimate catastrophe claims on their property.

The risk to avoid is the risk of getting a ‘zero claim’ or a claim that ends with an adjuster finding no damage to the property. There is one sure fire way to avoid a zero claim, have an expert out to look at your property and assess damage. Our contractors can take pictures of the damage and explain what your options are. This way you can avoid the risk as much as possible.

When it comes time to file a claim, you will call your insurance company’s claim line.

We have a list of insurance claim phone numbers available here.

The insurance company will give you a claim #, which you should write down for your records and they will assign an adjuster. Typically within 5 business days you will get a phone call from the adjuster. It is very important that you let them know if they are meeting with your contractor. It makes work tremendously easier if you are sure to write down the insurance adjuster’s phone number and give them then number of your contractor. This will allow everyone to get on the same page and to meet up together.
