If you just decided to replace your roof, whether it is your house or a commercial building, knowing what is the best type of flat roofing material for your needs, will help you make the right decision. Besides, it will help you to find the right Fort Collins roofer for your project.
For a flat roof, the most known and used material is the tar and gravel, also known as a build-up roof. This material has been used in the US for more than 100 years. It consists of three-four different layers of roofing, like asphalt, tar and coal and then covered in small stones or gravel layers. This final layer protects the tar from the sun.
Similar to the built-up roof is the modified bitumen, which is composed of asphalt rolls. But, unlike the built-up roof, this modified bitumen roof is usually made only of two piles or layers, followed by a base sheet and a cap sheet. This final layer usually looks granulated and often is light gray in color.
An easy to install flat roof material is the EPDM Rubber. This is usually stretched tight over an insulation board or fiberboard and looks like a membrane. It can be either glued or hang over the roof with large river stones.
